Baby Bedding Advice For First Time Parents
Babies normally spend 60% of its first year sleeping, for a new-born baby within 3 month olds spends even more time on sleeping. They have spent their time on bed twice as much as adult. Therefore, choosing appropriate bedding is very important!
Baby bedding on market has a lot of choices includes gender specific or sets that can be used by either boy or girl. These bedding sets come with cute and adorable designs: cartoon characters, cute little animal, flowers, and so on. Bedding themes like cars, bikes, airplanes and sports are suitable for boy baby. Colours will be blue, red, orange, or green, which usually is in bright colour.
Themes for girl baby will be associated with flowers, fairy, princess, Barbie, princess or butterfly. Soft colours like blue, pink, yellow, teal or mauve.
Other themes like the solar system, cute animals, and favourite cartoon characters such as the Smurfs, Tom and Jerry, Sponge Bob Square Pants, and Barney are suitable for either boy or girl.
However, the baby's comfort and safety should always be considered first. This is the first rule of baby bedding.
Generally, perfect bedding for infant is, it shouldn't be too hard or too soft. Too hard will be not comfortable, too soft will has risk of the mouth and nose gets covered by the mattress.
Besides that, some of the blankets or quilts that made with polyester or acrylic, when it became heat by the infant body temperature, it will emit gases that irritate the infant skin and eye.
There is few type of bedding, which are bassinet, crib and cradle. Bassinet is like a basket which in oblong-shaped and serve as infant bed. Crib is bed that has side bars at all sides. Cradle is a bed that has rockers on its stand.
Normally, bassinet is only for small babies that up to 4 months olds. However, crib can be used from infancy to two years. So, it may be more economical for some parent. On the other hand, some parent would prefer cradle as it can calm their cranky child.
